Gyroklor
The Gyrochlorine project is a collaboration between NIVA, the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) and the Norwegian Veterinary Institute.
Ocean Acidification Monitoring in Norwegian Waters
The purpose of the project is to monitor ocean acidification in Norwegian waters to provide an overview of the rate of acidification of Norwegian waters due to anthropogenic CO2 emissions.
Region West
Phase 1
S-UMMATION
Practical knowledge about nature-based solutions in the the Nordic countries from eight different pilot projects.
Seaweed Carbon Solutions (JIP)
NIVA leads the task “Monitoring and assessing environmental interactions”, and will evaluate the ecosystem effects of large-scale offshore seaweed farming.
Catchment Biogeochemistry
The section for catchment biogeochemistry works to understand how various pollutants are spread in the environment and how they affect the water quality in rivers, lakes, and fjords. Our studies lay the foundation for and support political guidelines and improvements to reduce unwanted environmental impacts.
New products from cultivated seaweed for blue-green value chains (GP Seaweed)
NIVA leads the task “Climate and environmental interactions” and will evaluate effects of industrial kelp cultivation on marine ecosystems and assess interactions between cultivated and natural seaweeds.

Methodology for assessing the environmental impact of aquaculture in relation to other sources of impact at a regional scale (MetoMilo)
The complex network of human activities and natural processes affecting coastal areas makes it difficult to manage for blue growth while safeguarding marine environment and ecosystem health. Several different methods are used to assess environmental status, but these cannot identify areas at high risk of high overall impact or identify and assess the contribution of the various sources of impact.

Ecosystem monitoring in coastal waters - ØKOKYST
The national monitoring program "Ecosystem monitoring in coastal waters - ØKOKYST" under the auspices of the Norwegian Environment Agency consists of several sub-programs that are divided into ecoregions. The program is part of the national basic monitoring of the environmental status of coastal waters and aims to monitor and map the environmental status in selected areas along the Norwegian coast.
Norsoop
NorSOOP will strengthen research and observations of the marine and atmospheric environments, as well as contribute to finding better solutions for observing and managing human impact on the world's oceans.
Restoration and sustainable management of shallow lakes in the Baltic region: framework and pilot studies
This project is a bilateral cooperation between research institutions in the three Baltic states and the Norwegian Institute for Water Research on lake restoration.
