Certifications and accreditations
NIVA has several certifications and accreditations. Among these are our certification in accordance with ISO9001, and our laboratory activities are accredited in accordance with ISO17025.
NIVA is certified according to ISO9001:2015
NIVA is certified according to ISO9001:2015. The scope of certification includes NIVA’s processes in research and development and innovation (R&D&I), monitoring, consulting and investigations within water and environment. NIVA’s services in Norway and Denmark are within the scope.
NIVA’s accredited services are not included in the scope, because the accreditation requirements cover and supplement the requirements of ISO 9001. The same goes for GLP-approved services.

NIVA’s laboratory is accredited according to ISO NS-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017
NIVA's laboratory services; chemical analyses, marine soft-bottom taxonomy, sampling, interpretations and opinions are accredited in accordance with NS-EN ISO/IEC 17025. NIVA abides by the OECD’s principles for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
NIVA's ecotoxicology laboratory performs tests in accordance with the OECD's Principles for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and in compliance with Directive 2004/10/EC of the European Parliament and of the European Council. The laboratory is included in the Norwegian Accreditation registry of GLP-inspected laboratories and is subject to the provisions of the Norwegian Accreditation's GLP scheme. Our registration number is GLP 007.
NIVA is approved by USCG as subcontracted testing facility for BWMS
NIVA is approved by U.S. Coast Guard to perform land-based and shipboard testing of Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS) on behalf of DNV GL and Lloyd’s Register.
Other information
NIVA’s management system also includes procedures related to health, safety and environment (HSE) - in accordance with Norwegian laws and regulations.
