SINOPLAST II
SINOPLAST II shall contribute to reduced plastic waste and marine litter originating from China. The project partners shall achieve this through establishing a whole life-cycle framework for plastics for policy makers, improving the capacity for integrated land-ocean management of plastics, and through improving the knowledge of plastics from a global perspective. The project will thus support the implementation of the new global plastics treaty.

About the project
The full title of the project is Sino-Norwegian cooperation project on capacity building for reducing plastic and microplastic pollution (SINOPLAST II).
The project’s main target group is decision-makers in the Chinese environment administration on the national, provincial and local level. Other relevant authorities and industry will also benefit from the cooperation.
The project is part of the bilateral climate and environment cooperation between China and Norway, anchored in a Letter of Intent between the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment and China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
The cooperation draws upon important research and government institutions in China and Norway. The Basel Convention Regional Center for Asia and the Pacific leads the project. NIVA and the Norwegian Environment Agency are project partners on the Norwegian side. This is the second phase of the cooperation. The project is financed through a grant agreement with the Norwegian Embassy in Beijing as well as in-kind contributions from Chinese partners.
