“Green” car tires are far from environmentally friendly
A recent NIVA study shows that so-called “green” car tires, which are marketed as environmentally friendly, can actually be just as harmful to the environment as regular tires – and in some cases even worse.
A (small) step closer to ending plastic pollution
UN Member States met in Ottawa 23-29 April to continue the negotiations for a global treaty to end plastic pollution. Researchers from NIVA are part of a network of 350 scientists informing the negotiations.

EUROqCHARM
The goal of the EUROqCHARM project (EUROpean quality Controlled Harmonization Assuring Reproducible Monitoring and assessment of plastic pollution) is to establish harmonized methods for monitoring and assessing macro-, micro-, and nanoplastics in the environment, as well as outlines for standards and recommendations for policy and legislation.
IMPASSE
IMPASSE has studied the impacts of microplastics in agroSystems and stream environment. The project is now finished.
MicroLEACH
MicroLEACH (Microplastics – Long-term Effects of plastics and Additive Chemicals on marine organisms) is an interdisciplinary four-year project funded by the Research Council of Norway (Marinforsk call) that brings together scientists from fields of microplastic and other particulate research, analytical chemistry, ecotoxicology and risk assessment
