WP1: Knowledge co-creation and dissemination

Lead: Jannike Falk–Andersson, NIVACo-lead: Wenting Chen, NIVA.

Description of objective: The objective of WP1 is to lead 3 stakeholder workshops for participatory risk assessment, give input to the development of stated preference surveys and knowledge co-creation to be used later in the development of the conceptual and applied bioeconomic models. WP1 will organise 2 expert advisory panel meetings. In addition, this WP will be responsible for disseminating the results of PICO. WP1 will also develop and update the project website. The WP1 will also lead in the management of knowledge generated from PICO and ensure that knowledge reaches users.

WP2: RKC/SC participatory risk assessment

Lead: Margrethe Aanesen, SNFCo-lead: Michael Morreau, UiT.

Description of objective: The objective of WP2 is to use ES framework to assess risks of RKC/SC to ESs in the Barents Sea among stakeholders and expert panel. The risk assessments will be developed to be based on consistent scoring methods. In addition, the assessment will extract stakeholder weightings on various ESs to inform sensitivity analyses in the applied bioeconomic models. The first project meeting will be used to collect inputs on the ES risk framework before the framework is applied to interview/survey stakeholders.

WP3: SP valuation of trade-offs between RKC/SC and marine ESs

Lead: Ståle Navrud, NMBUCo-LeadGodwin K. Vondolia, UCC

Description of objective: The aim of WP3 is to estimate trade-offs in preferences for RKC/SC and ESs provision. In this regard, WP3 will co-organise a stakeholder workshop to develop 2 stated preference surveys (one for RKC and the other for SC), implement the surveys among the public and analyse the surveys to identify and estimate the use and non-use values. For each survey, we plan to recruit a representative sample of 500 respondents via an internet panel to be purchased from a survey company.

WP4: Integrated bioeconomic analyses of RKC/SC and marine ecosystem provision

LeadClaire W. Armstrong, UiTCo-LeadKaiser A. Brooks, SDU.

Description of objective: The objective of WP4 is to co-develop conceptual/theoretical and applied bio-economic models for integrated management of RKC/SC and marine ESs in the Barents Sea. Results from participatory risk assessment and SP surveys will be used together with the theoretical model to develop applied, integrated, bio-economic models for RKC/SC. The WP will also gather relevant market data, harvest and cost data, as well as biological data and estimates for ESs on RKC/SC and other related species/ESs from the Directorate of Fisheries statistics, ICES, Norwegian Fishermen’s Sales Organisation (Norges Råfisklag), etc. The applied model will then be used to simulate different scenarios for managing RKC/SC and the provision of ESs. Sensitivity analyses will be conducted on applied the bio-economic models to determine threshold limits for various parameters and tipping points.
