EXPERTISE
Profile
Kristina Øie Kvile is a marine biologist with an MSc in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation from the University of Algarve/Azores (Portugal) and a PhD in Marine Ecology from the University of Oslo. Her professional expertise includes pelagic ecology and statistical analysis of environmental effects in marine ecosystems, with a particular focus on Arctic ecology and life history strategies of pelagic copepods. After completing her PhD, Kristina held two postdoctoral positions at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (USA) and the University of Oslo.
Since 2020, Kristina has been employed as a researcher at NIVA's Section for Marine Biology. She is involved in several projects involving mapping and modeling of marine habitats and species, such as kelp forests and eelgrass beds; use of drones for habitat classification in the coastal zone; and restoration of eelgrass beds and kelp forests. Kristina has extensive experience in the compilation of large and complex datasets, spatial-temporal statistical analysis and physical-biological modeling. In addition, Kristina has participated in fieldwork both in the coastal zone and at sea, as well as led manipulative experiments with copepods and fish.
