Profile

Juan Pardo is a researcher in the Marine Biology Section at NIVA. He is specialised in marine biology and coastal management, with experience in interdisciplinary research on animal-environment interactions, climate change and ecosystem dynamics. He is involved in national and international projects exploring the interplay between human-made infrastructure (e.g., offshore renewables, ports and harbours) and the environment, focusing on nature-based solutions (including nature inclusive design) and nature positive approaches in the offshore wind industry. He is currently part of the Coordination Team and serves as Scientific Deputy for the Horizon Europe project NiD4OCEAN. Juan has worked across diverse habitats and countries (e.g., Hong Kong, Brazil, Ireland), driven by a strong interest in sustainability initiatives. He has extensive experience conducting systematic reviews, quantitative/statistical analysis, field and laboratory experiments in behavioural, physiological and community ecology, along with benthic and pelagic offshore sampling (> 500 hours of ship time aboard research vessels). He has vast teaching and supervision (BSc and MSc students) experience at the university level with more recent activities as a university lector at the University of Agder (UiA). Juan Pardo is well-connected across Europe and globally, actively participating in network groups within the field of Coastal and Ocean Sciences.
