Diya is an Environmental Economist working as a Research Assistant in NIVAs section for Water and Society. She is involved in several EU Horizon projects focusing on ecocentric management for sustainable fisheries and healthy marine ecosystems (EcoScope), promoting investments in and analysing economic performance of Nature-Based Solutions for climate mitigation and risk reduction (Invest4Nature) and the Indo-Norwegian Collaboration Project on Ecosystem Services and Accounting (INECO). She is also involved in other international initiatives such as the International Knowledge Hub Against Plastic Pollution (IKHAPP) and the ASEAN-GIZ project "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle to Protect the Marine Environment and Coral Reefs" (3RproMar).
Diya's expertise includes economic modelling, fisheries economics, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, socio-economic assessments, statistical analysis with R, systematic literature reviews, communication, and project management. Diya holds an MPhil in Environmental and Development Economics from the University of Oslo. Her master’s thesis focused on ambition in strategic climate change agreements. She quantitatively calibrated a game-theoretic model to analyse emission targets and high participation rates in the Paris Agreement. She has more than 5 years of work experience in the events and business intelligence industry, primarily as a Conference Production Manager in Marcus Evans Group. Here she researched and curated professional conferences for the Australia and New Zealand market.
