Birger Skjelbred is a biologist with a PhD from the University of Oslo in 2012 and has worked as a researcher at NIVA since May 2009. He is a limnologist with a specialisation in planktonic algae; with a main emphasis on knowledge of taxonomy and ecology in freshwater. He has experience as a project manager and project associate in national and international projects within environmental monitoring and research.
Birger Skjelbred has worked on projects related to the Water Framework Directive and participated in the development and intercalibration of indices to determine the status of lakes based on the phytoplankton community.
