Summary

This report contains the latest updated version of the ICP Waters manual and presents guidance for monitoring of air pollution impacts in surface waters, covering acidification, nutrient enrichment and trace metal pollution. The chapters include general introduction to the LRTAP Convention and ICP Waters, chemical and biological effect monitoring of air pollution, and the design of a monitoring program. Then, organized according to sample type (e.g. water, groups of aquatic organisms, benthic macro-invertebrates, benthic diatoms, fish, and sediments) principles for monitoring of acidification, nutrient enrichment and trace metals pollution are treated subsequently, where appropriate. Finally, information on data reporting and inter-laboratory comparison tests is presented. The ICP Waters manual is relevant for surface water monitoring, not only under the LRTAP Convention, but also for the EU NEC Directive, the EU Water Framework Directive, the UNEP Minamata Convention, and for monitoring of arctic environments. -- Dette er en revidert versjon av rapport nr. 8047-2025.
