Summary
The environmental state of outer Oslofjorden has been monitored through a monitoring program funded by the Council of Outer Oslofjorden since 2001. A new program period started in 2019 and the entire monitoring program is now organized by NIVA, in cooperation with the University of Oslo and Eurofins. In 2019 the program included nutrient input calculations, water mass surveys of hydrographic conditions, phytoplankton and chemical parameters from 17 stations and hard-bottomed surveys (benthos) of flora and fauna in the littoral zone at 15 stations, as well as surveys of the lower growth limit for selected macroalgae at 18 stations. Additionally, continuous measurements of water masses from NIVAs FerryBox system on board the commercial ferry MS Color Fantasy is included. Weather-wise, 2019 can be defined as a normal year both in terms of temperature, precipitation and run-off.
