Sediment survey at Lutelandet in Fjaler municipality, Sogn og Fjordane County, Norway

Summary

A survey of contaminants in sediments was carried out at Lutelandet. The impact assessment reflects contaminant conditions in the recipient outside a planned industrial area prior to development of the area. Sediments were analyzed for metals, organic pollutants, oil and newer pollutants, such as brominated flame retardants (BHF), phthalates and chlorinated paraffins. In addition, toxicity tests on sediments were conducted. No elevated levels of pollutants were found, with the exception of one single compound of PAH. Most analyzes of organic contaminants and newer pollutants showed concentrations below the detection limits of the analytical methods used.
