Investigations of sediments outside Gjøsundet waste disposal site

Summary

In March 2015 sediment samples were taken at 3 stations at the seafloor outside Gjøsundet waste disposal site at Vigra. Analyses of grab samples of sediments showed low contaminations of cadmium (Cd), but for other heavy metals the concentrations were at background level. Moderate concentrations of TBT were found at all stations. The analyses showed weak contaminations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), while polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) were not found above detection level at any stations. Compared to results from 2001 the concentrations of contaminants were at the same level or lower.
