We work extensively with counts and determinations of freshwater benthic animals using the morphological characteristics of the species. We also use molecular methods such as DNA barcoding in our work, such as studies of genetic differences between species populations or determination of animals whose morphological descriptions are missing.
At the lab, we also work on changes in ecosystem function by studying degradation processes in rivers.
