Profile
Sondre Meland is a freshwater biologist (Cand. Scient.) and ecotoxicologist (PhD) from the Norwegian University of Environment and Life Sciences (NMBU) with professional specialization in fish and benthic ecology, as well as environmental chemistry and toxicological effects in fish. His research over many years deals with the link between environmental chemistry (urban and road-related pollutants including car tire particles and car tire chemical substances) and ecological effects, especially in urban areas including transportation. He has worked extensively with nature-based and technical solutions for cleaning storm water, road runoff and tunnel washing water. This also includes the possibility of reusing surface and stormwater for other purposes. A new and important area of research is also how the use of sensor technology, digitization and modeling can increase understanding of the problem and the solutions for handling e.g. urban stormwater. In the years 2020-2022, he was research manager for the Section Catchment Biogeochemistry. From June 2022, he is research manager for the section Urban Environments and Infrastructure.
