Profile

Sandra Gran is a marine biologist with a deep passion for the diversity and conservation of the marine environment. With more than ten years of experience in the field, she possesses specialised knowledge in protist diversity, eDNA metabarcoding, bioinformatics, and biostatistics, alongside expertise in laboratory analyses, field sampling, and publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals. She is driven by a strong commitment to understanding and protecting marine ecosystems and is eager to apply her expertise and dedication to new challenges in marine biology. In 2019, Sandra earned her PhD in Marine Biology at the University of Oslo (UiO) and worked as a marine researcher at UiO until 2021.

Since 2021, she has been a researcher at NIVA, in the section for oceanography, where she actively contributes to various environmental monitoring projects. Her responsibilities include data processing, statistical analysis, data visualisation, computational tools (particularly R), and report writing. She is also responsible for spectrophotometric methods, such as CDOM analysis, in monitoring projects.

More recently, Sandra has developed a growing interest in renewable energy and nature-inclusive solutions. She is now the project leader for the EU-funded NiD4OCEAN initiative, which promotes innovative approaches to support both sustainable energy and biodiversity through nature-inclusive design for offshore renewable energy sources.
