Profile
I am a freshwater ecologist with a background in ecotoxicology, aquatic biodiversity, and the impacts of multiple stressors on freshwater ecosystems. I earned my Ph.D. in Environmental and Life Sciences from Trent University in Canada, where I investigated the effects of silver nanoparticles on zooplankton and benthic macroinvertebrate communities. I later expanded my research as a postdoctoral fellow at the Ruder Boskovic Institute in Croatia, focusing on the impacts of microplastics, metals, pharmaceuticals, and endocrine-disrupting compounds on aquatic systems.
I currently work as a Researcher in the Freshwater Ecology section at the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA). My research focuses on adaptive co-management, understanding and developing safe operating spaces for freshwater, sustainable water management, and assessing the impacts of contaminants on freshwater organisms. At NIVA, I contribute to several projects, including SOS-WATER, NBSPLUS, and FutureLakes, emphasizing stakeholder engagement, participatory approaches, and developing strategies for resilient water basin management.
I have a strong foundation in field and lab-based research, particularly on benthic macroinvertebrates and zooplankton, and experience conducting ecotoxicological assessments of community composition and responses to multiple stressors. My experience also includes supporting multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) and using collaborative approaches to guide restoration efforts and water resource management.
With an interdisciplinary approach, I contribute to collaborative efforts aimed at improving our understanding of freshwater ecosystems and supporting strategies for sustainable management and biodiversity conservation.
