EXPERTISE

Profile

Dr. Evgeniy Yakushev is a Senior Researcher in the Section of Oceanography with 30 years of experience in chemical oceanography and biogeochemical modeling. He received his PhD in oceanography in 1984 and habilitation in 2002 from the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology. He has worked at NIVA since 2007. His activity concerns the implementation of field and modeling techniques to investigate how biogeochemical processes affect nutrients (e.g. C, N, O, P, S), with particular emphasis on oxygen depletion processes and anoxia in the aquatic environment. Evgeniy is a developer of several biogeochemical models (ROLM, BROM, OxyDep, 2DBP) that are used in theoretical and applied applications. His interests also include studying climate effects on the Arctic, ocean acidification, and pollution with heavy metals, POPs, and plastics. Dr Yakushev is actively involved in several internationally and nationally funded projects, (e.g. NFR BEST-Siberian and KLD MAMBA - Project Manager, EU SUBOX, EU STEMM-CCS – PL from NIVA), and supervises Master's students, PhD students and Postdocs. He is widely published in marine science and biogeochemistry (2 books, more than 100 scientific papers and proceedings) and has been an invited speaker at several international conferences.
