Profile
Eléonore has more than thirteen years of experience doing research in EU law and the circular economy. Generally, her research approach is based on an inquiry about the law whereby she looks at the law in context, critically analyses it and aims at proposing reforms. At NIVA, she has worked on several projects, bringing her expertise in law and circular sustainability to various topics including citizen science, aquaponics, wastewater and rights of nature. She has also taken part in NIVA's contribution to the Norwegian government's work on establishing a mission (samfunnsoppdrag) for the circular economy.
Eléonore holds a PhD in law from the University of Oslo (UiO), which focused on Europe’s policy and regulatory framework for the circular economy, critically discussing the general understanding of the concept and purpose of the circular economy as well as various regulatory approaches notably in waste law, consumer law and public procurement. She then continued working on circular economy policies and sustainability law as a postdoc at UiO as part of the project ‘Futuring Sustainable Nordic Business Models’ and as deputy head of the Sustainability Law research group. Prior to her academic career, Eléonore worked at ClientEarth (Brussels), an environmental lawyer's organisation, on waste law, energy efficiency and the rule of law. She also has work experience at the Court of Justice of the European Union (in Luxembourg) and at the EFTA Secretariat (in Brussels).
Eléonore is driven by her desire to contribute to achieving a sustainable future where both humans and the planet can prosper, and where her two boys can continue enjoying nature. She joined the section Water & Society on 1st of September 2023.
