Sebastian Kühr is an environmental researcher with German state examination in biology and chemistry and a PhD in Biology (Dr. rer. nat.). During his PhD studies and work at the Fraunhofer IME in Germany, his focus was on the development of alternative test methods and systems with invertebrates that allow to waive vertebrate studies for regulatory bioaccumulation assessment of nano- and microparticles. In addition, to studying the toxicokinetic of (mostly metal or metal oxide-based) nanoparticles and microplastics, he is also investigating the (eco-)toxicological effects of these particles on the aquatic environment. One focus is on the input of materials via wastewater and the effect of wastewater treatment on the behavior and properties of these materials. Since 2021 he is Post Doc in the Ecotoxicology and Risk Assessment section at NIVA in Oslo and mainly works within the RCN-funded project ENTRANS in which he focused on the behavior and transformation of nanomaterials in wastewater treatment plants and the effects of their environmental transformation on freshwater, marine and terrestrial organisms as well as in vitro cell models.
